About an hour into Fukrey Returns, Hunny, one of the four fukreys, solemnly declares – sabhi cheezen samajh aayen, yeh zaroori toh nahin. I felt like he was direct messaging me. Because honestly, I just didn’t get this film. And I don’t mean that I missed the sub-text or any over-arching philosophy. I actually couldn’t follow the plot. Fukrey Returns feels like a few good characters in search of a story. Actors Varun Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi get a few laugh out loud moments, but that apart, this sequel is foolish and exhausting.

Fukrey Returns comes nowhere near being the rip-roaring ride that the 2013 sleeper hit Fukrey, at least in parts, was. Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and co-writer Vipul Vig, juggling with elements that have clearly lost their sheen, fail to rustle up anything that could be described as refreshing. The fact that the screenplay does not accord balanced treatment to the oddball characters that pumped life into the first film does not help matters either.

Fukrey Returns is a fun ride. Part one of this franchise, which released in 2013 had smarter writing and offered a fresher perspective on this bunch of blundering idiots, who depended on Choocha's premonition skills to help them navigate through their kadki(financial crunch). This part too does have some sharp wit and crackling dialogue. Only the pace is not balanced. So even at two hours, twenty minutes it sometimes feel stretched.

To watch 'Fukrey Returns', you don't necessarily have to watch the first part, because the director clearly explains the entire story in the opening credits. However, it's a fun film which we recommend you watch. So is this one. In fact it is funnier than the first part. That familiar craziness you've seen in the characters is not just back; it has doubled, in fact.

It’s mostly a rehash of Fukrey. Ironically, the parts which are introduced in the new film work better. For example, the guy who dives in Yamuna for money gets immediately noticed. Unfortunately, such plots don’t get much play. The bromance between Honey and Chu Cha works initially and then turns out to be an irritating ritual. Between Fukrey and Fukrey Returns, Pulkit Samrat and his friends have lost their innocence and have become really dim-witted. Fukrey Returns is a tedious 141-minute watch which is unfunny, unintelligent and repetitive.

If not madly original, it could have been some amount of fun, and you can see it in tiny bits when Chaddha and Tripathi are vamping it up. But it starts to pall right from the start. And the crassness begins to get tiresome: bare butts are bitten by snakes, a guy peeing is both seen and heard, and everyone roams around, for some inexplicable reason, in the Delhi zoo, without a clue as to what to they are doing.

On the whole, FUKREY RETURNS is a fun, clean film that works despite the illogical and slightly unconvincing plot. With no other significant Hindi movie in theatres around, FUKREY RETURNS definitely has a chance of excelling at the box office.

Continuous dosage of hilarious moments, Varun Sharma’s beefed up version of Choocha, Vipul Vig’s street style writing (Which is a major reason for this sequel to exist). Fukrey Returns is one super-entertaining movie. Retaining the magic of the first part, this easily is one of the best comedies of the year. Tiger also plays an important role in the film so yeh Tiger Zinda Hai jab tak aa jaaye Tiger Zinda Hai. Three and half stars!
