A brilliant birthday present for Ranveer Singh: entering the Grévin

Ranveer Singh, , born 6 July 1985 in Mumbai, is one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars today. His very first film — Band Baaja Baaraat — was a resounding success and won him a Filmfare Award in the Best Male Debut category. In the next year, he went on to act in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl that was a big box-office hit. He became a popular, leading star almost overnight. He then performed in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and one of the notable Indian commercial successes of 2013. In the same year, Ranveer’s performance in the critically acclaimed Lootera was applauded. Ranveer won over audiences in India and across the world with the blockbuster Bajirao Mastani, a magnum opus that featured him as a warrior hero in 2015. His role as Peshwa Bajirao also won him multiple awards.

In 2016 Ranveer Singh starred in BEFIKRE (meaning “carefree” in Hindi), directed by Aditya Chopra, opposite Vaani Kapoor.

BEFIKRE was the first Bollywood film to be entirely shot in France, a lot of it in Paris. Ranveer enjoyed the Parisian experience and loved spending time in the French capital.

Speaking about the birthday launch of the statue at the Grévin, Ranveer said, “It’s a truly special birthday present and one that will always bring back beautiful memories of Paris. I love all things French, and am grateful to the museum that they have given me a permanent place in wax in their home and their hearts.”

In India, the cinema is much more than an art or an industry. It is a culture, a way of life and is a tangible part in the life of many Indians who have a sense of identity with their actor “heroes” and the values they represent. As Shah Rukh Khan put it, emphasising its importance, “It’s as natural as brushing your teeth”..

The wax figure will be on view in one of the Grévin’s most prestigious venues, the Hall of Columns, not far from Shah Rukh Khan, Céline Dion, Leonardo Di Caprio , Angelina Jolie, among many others.
ON THE OCCASION OF THE ACTOR’S STOPOVER IN PARIS announced the screening of BEFIKRE, on 11 October 2016, the sculptor Eric Saint Chaffray and the Grévin’s artistic teams met up with Ranveer Singh to gather the data they needed for creating his waxwork. This session was held at the PullmannTour Eiffel hotel, to the musical accompaniment of the film’s superb soundtrack and amid much laughter as Ranveer is joyful and charming and a real pro. “I love Paris”, he said, “I wouldn’t mind coming back every month”.

Hair, skin, and eye colours were carefully recorded and the hands were moulded - nothing was left to chance. The only problem for the sculptor was to recapture the exact contours of the face since the actor was wearing a beard to play his role in the film!

Ranveer donated one of his own outfits to be worn by his statue. It was sent to the Grévin from Mumbai.

Grévin, the most entertaining wax museum, is celebrating its 135th anniversary. Air-conditioned and open all summer, this famous Parisian attraction is ideal for a pleasurable day’s outing to meet more than 200 personalities in unique settings.
